How Kee Seafood Village Restaurant @ Bukit Tambun

Call me crazy but I like to order non-seafood items at a seafood restaurant just to see if their 'side' dishes are as good as their main star dishes. Anyway, I have been many times to this restaurant with my parents. We have tried most of their food already and they were good and cheap compared to the other restaurants around this area. I especially love their mantis prawns.

The restaurant is located opposite this building
Today, I had a craving for 'mi tiao' noodles, so we drove all the way from Butterworth to Bukit Tambun for it. We also ordered a bunch of other dishes to go with our noodles: salad you tiao a.k.a fried chinese breadsticks salad, zhao pai dou fu a.k.a signature tofu and last but not least, Marmite chicken- a dish that is commonly available in chinese restaurants here in Malaysia.

zhao pai dou fu RM10.60

'Mi tiao' noodles RM10.60

Marmite chicken RM10.60

Salad you tiao RM8.48
It was a satisfying dinner even though it was not the most expensive or luxurious one. Mi tiao was flavourful with plentiful of prawns, eggs and vegetables. Signature tofu was alright but I would not call it their signature dish. Salad you tiao was good as usual and this dish comes with an abundance of cabbage and carrots. I love to take each bite with a bit of the salad. Really good and crunchy! Only negative remark to make was that the mi tiao noodles and Marmite chicken dishes were smaller in portion than our last visit before GST started. Maybe next time we will order a 4-person portion instead.

Overall, total bill came up to less than RM50 which was as predicted. They did however charged us 6% for GST tax. Service was alright and prompt, paper napkins were provided and an appetizer dish of nuts was served while food was being prepared in the kitchen. End note: my craving for the day has been satisfied... :)

Tea Zone Cafe @ Raja Uda

This is one of my family's favourite place to eat as they are open round the clock serving not only lunch and dinner, but snacks and a huge variety of drinks! Personally I am not a rice person, so I love that they offer a few good selection of noodles. I have tried them all and they are tasty and the portion of food is quite generous. The place is always packed in the weekend, especially with families. And I notice it has been a favourite spot for teenagers too as the price is affordable.

My dad's favourite is hokkien char, he only orders this whenever we visit this place. On the other hand, my mum and I prefers their Thai style fried mihun. The Singapore style mihun is also quite good. The lady boss is friendly and she knows us as we frequent her cafe almost every weekend. Since my mum and I prefer fish meat over chicken or pork, the chef will make us our 'personalized' plate of mihun without beans sprout and with fish fillets instead of chicken.

Depending on which food item you order, you can opt for a set meal inclusive of a drink that you can choose from the fruit juice series (worth RM5.00) with the price of either RM9 or RM10 per set meal.
It's really worth it as one plate of noodles is RM6.50 already, so we save RM2.50 every time we order a set meal of Thai style mihun and fruit juice. I like the aloevera honey tea as it contains small pieces of aloevera in the drink, while Kam Quat Plum juice is my mum's favourite.

Dimsum delights @ 记得吃香港点心 Kee Tek Jia, Nibong Tebal

This is one of my favourite places to eat dimsum. Simply because most of their dimsums are made from fresh prawns. I prefer to eat dimsums like 'ha gao' (prawn dumplings)  rather than those made from pork. Because of this the husband often calls me a halal piggy. Hmmph. -__-

It is a relatively huge place with 3 shop lots. They serve steamed dimsums on the leftmost of the shop and fried ones on the right side. Some of the staff will bring freshly made dimsums around and you can take those straight from their hands.

Mouth-watering steamed dimsums

Fried dimsum, my favourite!
Fried prawn dumplings with bits of ku chai RM5
Fried prawn mixed with fish dimsum Rm3
Chai kueh RM3
Prawn lobak RM5
Fried yam + pandan dimsum Rm5
Steamed pi tan + prawn dumpling RM3
Steamed mang kuang (turnip) dimsum RM3
My favourites are of course the fried prawn dumplings and prawn lobak. These are a must-order for me every time i visit. Fried yam + pandan on the other hand did not taste as good as it looked. I love yam and could not resist any delicacy made from yam. The yam is a bit dry and tasteless, badly in need of a pinch of sugar. Everything else tasted acceptable.

Our orders
As predicted, the bill for our breakfast-for-two rang up to about Rm30. This place has always been pricier than other places but I still visit as they have more varieties and choices when it comes to dimsums with prawns as the main ingredient. Recommended to all prawn lovers like myself out there.

Address:  Permatang 1, Lorong Keramat Permai 1, Taman Keramat Permai, 14300, Nibong Tebal, Pulau Pinang.

Price range: Rm3-5 per plate (most of the prawn-based dimsums are priced at RM5), so far I have not been charged with GST even though they are registered. Cash only.

Opening hours: 0700-1400H daily, closed on Wednesdays every 2 weeks.
