Sleeping with a seaview @ Maritime Waterfront Hotel

It's hubby's birthday and I wanted to give him a celebration he won't forget. Normally we just head over to Penang for a romantic lunch and dinner +/- a movie. This year, I thought why not spend a night at a nice local hotel, somewhere we can relax and be alone away from work and everything else.

I found this new hotel which has only been opened for 2 months along Karpal Singh Drive that offers a great seaview from their rooms and as an opening promo, the price is very reasonable in my opinion. Maritime Waterfront Hotel is located at a strategic location where it is easily accessible from the Lim Chong Eu Highway. If you feel hungry in the middle of the night, you can just go down from your room and walk along Karpal Singh Drive to the array of shops, cafes, bistros and restaurants adjacent to the drive, such as Starbucks and Coffeesmith. Or you can enjoy a quiet walk with the gentle sea breeze blowing in your hair or use the free bicycles provided by the hotel to explore around Penang. 

I booked a Deluxe suite with 1 bedroom although I really like the Deluxe suite with 2 bedroom as it has a loft overseeing the living room. But it would be a waste to get the 2 bedroom one since there is only 2 of us, so I stick to the 1 bedroom suite. I only paid Rm232, and the best thing is, upon arrival, we were upgraded to Family suite! Even better! We were too happy for words...

However, when I checked from Expedia, the rates are way cheaper. But the dates are limited to till 18th of Sept 2015 only, after which the rates go up to the normal rates as mentioned above.

Although they rate themselves as a 3.5-star hotel, I feel they are 4-star equivalent. Service was good, the girl who checked us in even brought us to our room and gave us a mini tour to let us know what are the amenities available in the room. The exciting thing was the food in the fridge are F.O.C, there is a stylish and sleek kitchenette available for you to cook with a microwave oven, a pot, a ladle, forks, spoons, a knife, mugs, coffee machine and a water boiler. They also have a hair dryer, an iron, a safe, slippers and bathrobes tucked away in the closet. I love the design of the rooms and the living room, I would definitely steal some ideas for my new house... ;)

There is also an outdoor swimming pool and a small gym. Overall, the middle-of-the-week getaway was just what we needed. We just wished we could have stayed longer...  Thumbs up for Maritime Waterfront Hotel! We would be back again~~

Birthday lunch buffet @ E&O Hotel

It was my husband's birthday and since he loves to eat buffet, I always bring him for one every year. This year I decided to book for Equatorial Hotel's lunch buffet at Nada Lama after having short listed both Equatorial and E&O hotel as the possible locations for the celebration as only these two hotels serve in my opinion, acceptable weekday lunch buffet. However, due to unforeseen circumstances, I had to change to Sarkies Corner at E&O Hotel at the last minute. Fortunately, I managed to secure a reservation two days prior.

Seeing as it is a Wednesday, a working day, most of the patrons are considerably of the older generation. We were surrounded by aunties and uncles and even those as old as our grandparents. Hehe... But we did not mind, we rather enjoyed the peaceful and slow atmosphere.

This is my husband's first time here and he was impressed by the wide spread of food selection. He could not decide where to start. Everything looks good, he ended up taking a bit of everything and going for seconds and thirds. I, on the other hand, only had eyes for the cake and dessert corner. I love all the cakes, ALL of them. Unlike many other hotel buffets that I have been to where their cakes are not the main star and therefore they only serve a few types of cakes and they are usually those normal cheap ones that you can get at any bakery, E&O hotel buffet cakes are way nicer and they have many choices, all with different flavours. I have tasted cheese cakes, chocolate cakes, brownies, chocolate cookies, fruit tarts, bread puddings, jelly and pies! Too scrumptious for words. I think it is already worth it just to eat only the cakes alone as the cakes are Rm14 per piece usually.  :D

And they serve two types of cream soups with add-any-amount-of-croutons-you-want! Yummy~ And I love the fact that you can make your own coffee from the coffee machine just like St. Giles Wembley Hotel. They also serve a type of fruit juice that I can't identify, but it tasted a little like passion fruit juice.

Just when we thought we have explored all the areas, we noticed there is more food that  you can order to prepare on the spot at the corner: noodles, char kuey teow and pasembur corner. But we were too full already, so we decided not to order any.
